 Welcome to Accelerated Change and our live events page.We are currently involved with fund raising for St. Luke's Hospice in Plymouth. Please visit their web site and familiarise yourself with the incredible service they provide. www.stlukes-hospice.org.uk As I was, you will no doubt be amazed at the scope of their work- how important their function for Plymouth.

 You will also be surprised to learn that they only receive less than 30% government funding for their annual £5 million running costs! They need to raise money to keep the service available.

Please visit them and find out about all the ways you can personally assist. There are so many fun ways to make things happen.

                          Fun time had with rare line up of artists and Auction at Plymouth African Festival!
 The charity fundraising one-day event for St Luke’s Hospice held at St Matthias Hall this last Saturday 20th had a colourful array of African music, dance and authentic African food, as well as an auction of goods and services. Organiser of the family event, Richard Down of Accelerated Change, Mannamead based hypnotherapy, says ; “The event turned out to be not as well attended as we hoped, however it was a great success in many ways. Eric Distin, our celebrity auctioneer placed 23 items, generously donated by company’s and individuals in Plymouth, under the hammer and even though we had a small crowd for the auction, it still raised £593 for the Hospice alone” Offers for Paul Acraman’s Cliff Walk #1 oil painting , the Astor Hotel’s Bridal Suite for the night and Staddon Hieghts' game of golf for four people- can still be made by contacting the organiser!
Paul Acraman Cliff Walk#1Raffle prizes were donated by local companys and their logos appeared throughout the day, projected on to a screen in the hall along with information about St Luke’s Hospice.  “Throughout the whole process of organising this event I have been inspired by the strong community feeling in support of our local Hospice and in support of people trying different ways of making money for charity. The encouragement I have received and the help and advice offered has been invaluable for future events for charity fundraising. The total raised on the day for St. Luke’s Hospice was £739.  Certainly the line up of artists willing to support our event was overwhelming!

Amongst the entertainers;

·       Jules Evans and the Plymouth Community Choir invited all to join in with African rhythms www.julesevans.com

·       Abantu Arts, Denis Kigogo from Uganda , master of  Djembe drumming joined in with a huge line up of  Drummers www.abantuarts.com

·       Afra Al Kahira, famous  Egyptian/North African style Belly Dancer showed the crowd her art and lured audience participation with her stick! www.afraalkahira.com

·       Drum Elburton’s Jo Richards,  Provided strong support from early in the day and in to the night with her ensemble of drummers, singing and dance and drum workshop. www.drumelburton.blogspot.com

·       Africussion from Soundhouse, West African Djembe drumming, impressive performances at different times of the day www.africcussion.org

·       Samuel Yeboah. Founder of Powerful Drums. Master craftsman and drum performer from Ghana ..stunning performance! www.powerfuldrums.co.uk

·       Ayodele Scott. Highly respected teacher and performer from Sierra Loene. Fabulous drummer also previous performances with Baka Beyond! Ayo came along at different times of our day showing impressive solo performances as well as great fusions with the other drummers. He then went on to sail away from Plymouth Hoe at 4pm to retrace the beginnings of the Atlantic Slave Triangle and introduce a new legacy of creative collaboration between UK, West Africa and the Caribbean . www.sameboat.com

·       Timo’s Afra Beat and ALL STARS! Dub poetry and Reggea..sampling African instruments..this was a hit on the day and definitely into the evening

All of the performers created a fluid line up, supporting our fundraising for St Luke’s Hospice and supporting each other by complimenting each others music.

Many people involved in this event expressed the opinion that they would like to do it all over again.

 “We would like to have another event like the Plymouth African Festival..this was the trial run..However, it will have to be next year!”

Richard wishes to personally thank Lorna Baker, head of fundraising at St Luke’s. Marianna Esbensen from Totness who came to the rescue and did so much towards the day, and all who put their hearts into this small but significant event, “Thank you everyone for becoming involved. This was a special day bringing people together where friendships were made, great artists came together to showcase their work and strong support for St Luke’s Hospice shown throughout the business community. ”
