Welcome to Accelerated Change and our live events page.We are currently involved with fund raising for St. Luke's Hospice in Plymouth. Please visit their web site and familiarise yourself with the incredible service they provide. www.stlukes-hospice.org.uk As I was, you will no doubt be amazed at the scope of their work- how important their function for Plymouth.
You will also be surprised to learn that they only receive less than 30% government funding for their annual £5 million running costs! They need to raise money to keep the service available.
Please visit them and find out about all the ways you can personally assist. There are so many fun ways to make things happen.
Plymouth African Festival for
St. Luke's Hospice
View of Mawenzi Peak, looking out from Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro 5895m Original pastel by Jackie Johnson of Oxford. Commissioned for Plymouth African Festival auction. Sold for £150 in the Auction with Eric Distin (auctioneer) 20th June 2009.
Raffle prizes were donated by local companys and their logos appeared throughout the day, projected on to a screen in the hall along with information about St Luke’s Hospice. “Throughout the whole process of organising this event I have been inspired by the strong community feeling in support of our local Hospice and in support of people trying different ways of making money for charity. The encouragement I have received and the help and advice offered has been invaluable for future events for charity fundraising. The total raised on the day for St. Luke’s Hospice was £739. Certainly the line up of artists willing to support our event was overwhelming!
Amongst the entertainers;
· Jules Evans and the Plymouth Community Choir invited all to join in with African rhythms www.julesevans.com
· Abantu Arts, Denis Kigogo from
· Drum Elburton’s Jo Richards, Provided strong support from early in the day and in to the night with her ensemble of drummers, singing and dance and drum workshop. www.drumelburton.blogspot.com
· Africussion from Soundhouse, West African Djembe drumming, impressive performances at different times of the day www.africcussion.org
· Samuel Yeboah. Founder of Powerful Drums. Master craftsman and drum performer from
· Timo’s Afra Beat and ALL STARS! Dub poetry and Reggea..sampling African instruments..this was a hit on the day and definitely into the evening
All of the performers created a fluid line up, supporting our fundraising for St Luke’s Hospice and supporting each other by complimenting each others music.Many people involved in this event expressed the opinion that they would like to do it all over again.
“We would like to have another event like the Plymouth African Festival..this was the trial run..However, it will have to be next year!”Richard wishes to personally thank Lorna Baker, head of fundraising at St Luke’s. Marianna Esbensen from Totness who came to the rescue and did so much towards the day, and all who put their hearts into this small but significant event, “Thank you everyone for becoming involved. This was a special day bringing people together where friendships were made, great artists came together to showcase their work and strong support for St Luke’s Hospice shown throughout the business community. ”
